Enrique Krauze, born in Mexico City in 1947, is a historian and essayist. He graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico in 1969 and obtained a Ph.D. in History from El Colegio de M\u00e9xico in 1974. From 1977 to 1996 he served as Deputy Editor of Vuelta<\/em> magazine, edited by Octavio Paz. In 1991 he founded the publishing house Editorial Cl\u00edo, which produces books and documentaries. Additionally, in 1999, he established the Letras Libres<\/em> magazine.<\/p>

As a writer, Enrique Krauze has pursued several genres such as biography, literary and historical essays, and interviews. Some of his publications include Caudillos culturales en la Revoluci\u00f3n Mexicana<\/em> (1976), La reconstrucci\u00f3n econ\u00f3mica<\/em> (1977), Daniel Cos\u00edo Villegas \/ Una biograf\u00eda intelectual<\/em> (1980), Por una democracia sin adjetivos<\/em> (1986), Biograf\u00eda del poder<\/em> (1987), Siglo de caudillos<\/em> (1993), La presidencia imperial<\/em> (1997), Mexicanos eminentes<\/em> (1999), Tarea pol\u00edtica<\/em> (2000), Traves\u00eda liberal<\/em> (2003), La presencia del pasado<\/em> (2004), El poder y el delirio<\/em> (2008), De h\u00e9roes y mitos<\/em> (2010). El arte de la <\/em>biograf\u00eda<\/em> (2012), Octavio Paz. El poeta y la Revoluci\u00f3n<\/em> (2014), El nacimiento de las instituciones<\/em> (2015), the Ensayista Liberal Collection (2015-2016) which consists of six volumes: Personas e ideas, Caras de la Historia I <\/em>and Caras de la Historia II, Por una democracia sin adjetivos, Del desencanto al mesianismo and Democracia en construcci\u00f3n<\/em>, M\u00e9xico: Biograf\u00eda del poder<\/em> (Tusquets, 2017) and El pueblo soy yo<\/em> (Debate, 2018).<\/p>

His work on the history of Mexico has been published by Harper Collins in the United States under the titles Mexico: Biography of Power<\/em> (1997) and Redeemers<\/em> (2011).<\/p>

Krauze is the author of several documentaries and television series about Mexican History. He is also executive producer of the film Beyond Borders: Undocumented Mexican Americans directed by Micah Fink (2016). In addition, he is the executive producer of the documentary El pueblo soy yo. Venezuela en populismo<\/em> by director Carlos Oteyza (2018).<\/p>

In 1990 Enrique Krauze started at the Mexican Academy of History. Additionally, he obtained the “Premio Comillas” for Biography in Spain (1993). In 2003, the Spanish Government honored him with the “Gran Cruz de la Orden de Alfonso X, el Sabio.”<\/p>

In 2005, Krauze became a member of El Colegio Nacional and in 2010, the Government of Mexico granted him the National History Award. In 2012, he received the Bonald Caballero International Essay Award for his book Redeemers<\/em>. He was also awarded the 2021 Spanish Orders History Prize granted by the Orders of Santiago, Calatrava, Alc\u00e1ntara and Montesa.<\/p>

Since 1985, Enrique Krauze has published his work in Dissent Magazine<\/em>, The New Republic<\/em>, The Washington Post, The New York Review of Books <\/em>and The New York Times<\/em>.<\/p>

In 2012 he received the Chapultepec Grand Prize, awarded by the Inter-American Press Association, and the Caballero Bonald International Essay Prize for his book Redentores<\/em>.<\/p>
