About
Álvaro Rodríguez Arregui is co-founder and managing partner of IGNIA, a venture capital fund focused on Latin American digital companies and global digital companies entering the region.
Rodríguez Arregui was also chairman of Gentera group and Compartamos Banco, considered one of the largest microfinance institutions in the Americas; he also served as chairman of the board for ACCION Internacional, a US-based non profit organization focused on microfinance with more than 60 years of experience in the sector.
He currently serves on the board of Harvard University´s David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies, Social Progress Imperative (co-founder), ITAM Epic Entrepreneurship Center, Harvard Business School, Larin America Advisory Board, and Oxford University Saïd Business School Global Council
His professional career also includes positions as CFO of Vitro, CEO of Farmacias Benavides and CFO of Grupo Elektra.
In Mexico, Álvaro Rodríguez Arregui studied economics at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM), and was later awarded the name of distinguished alumnus by the university. He also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Harvard Business School.
In 2019, Harvard awarded Rodríguez Arregui, together with Michael Bloomberg, New York´s former major, the Distinguished Alumni Award, the highest honor given to an alumnus of that institution, where he currently teaches and mentors students through his role as an Executive Fellow.
In 2005, Álvaro was named Young Global Leader (YGL) by the World Economic Forum (WEF). Forbes placed him as one of the top 30 social entrepreneurs in the world. In 2012, the Young President Organization (YPO) awarded Álvaro with the SEN Award for Sustainability in Economic Justice/Community Impact and in 2014, the president of Mexico honoured him with the National Entrepreneurship Award.
